How Scrolling on Your Phone is Affecting Your Skin

You didn’t think just because summer’s over you could stop protecting your skin, did you? Spending time inside can be harmful too. IS NOWHERE SAFE?!

The average adult spends 10 hours a day looking at screens. Computers, phones, LED TVs – they’re taking over our lives. It’s Rise of the Machines out there, people!

Why does this matter? Well, all your favorite devices emit this pesky thing called Blue Light (aka High Energy Visible or HEV light) which can cause serious damage over time.

  • Can penetrate the skin deeper than UVA and UVB
  • Can cause skin pigmentation, potentially even more than UV rays 
  • Alters your circadian rhythm by suppressing your body’s production of melatonin
  • Increases eye strain, potentially leading to retina damage

Limit your screen time. Ok, we get it, those instagram stories aren’t gonna update themselves. If you can’t seem to put down your device,
at least try to avoid screen time 2-3 hours before bed so you get all
your Z’s.

Dim the lights. Artificial light, including LED bulbs, emit blue light. Invest in an automatic dimmer system or a simple dimmer switch.
For a moodier vibe, swap out your lights at night for some candles
(just don’t forget to blow them out before bed).

Get some fancy blue blockers. Be the cool dad you always wanted to be with some blue light filtering glasses. Yes, they exist. They even look kinda cool.
