A skin care routine can quickly turn from a necessary chore into a relaxing and therapeutic part of your day. It’s a gentle reminder to take care of yourself in your otherwise busy everyday life. If you’re confused about the different steps, we’ve gathered a useful guide on how to cleanse, tone and apply SPF for the best skin of your life. You’re welcome :-)

Your Step-By-Step Skin Care Routine Explained

For the ultimate skin care enthusiasts, products for a comprehensive routine will include:

  • Oil-based cleanser
  • Water-based cleanser
  • Exfoliator
  • Toner
  • Essence And Treatments (Serum, Ampoule, Booster)
  • Sheet Mask
  • Eye Cream
  • Moisturizer
  • SPF

Keep in mind, the above list is pretty extensive and not every human wants to follow this outline. For most of us, a simple 3 step routine is more than enough. The foundational steps for healthy skin is to double-cleanse, use a toner and use an SPF (rain or shine).

What Is The 4-Step Skin Care Routine?

  • Double-Cleanse: Oil-based and water-based cleansers
  • Toner
  • SPF

The first, very long list is customizable, so as long as you cleanse your face, balance skin with toner and use a reliable sunscreen, you have the basics covered. As a rule of thumb, try to have your skincare routine start with the 'lightest' product to the 'heaviest' in terms of texture.

Step 1: First cleanser - Product: Oil-based cleanser

Start off by using an oil-based cleanser to remove your makeup and purify your skin from other oil-based impurities. This cleanser cleans off the previous day’s SPF, pollution and grime so there’s no build up.

Step 2: Second cleanser - Product: Water-based cleanser

Complete the double-cleanse by massaging water-based, foaming cleanser on your skin. This ensures your skin is hydrated and free of any remaining impurities (like dirt and sweat) to give yourself a clean base.

Step 3: Apply Toner - Product: Toner

A toner restores your skin’s natural pH balance, making it more hydrated and finally ready to absorb the next products you’re about to apply. A toner also ensures that any remaining residue is completely gone after cleansing.

Many people overlook this step, because that’s because many of us in the past have felt our skin get tight or dry after using some brands. But this only happens if you’re using alcohol-based toners that strip the skin of its moisture. Thanks to the rising trend of the Korean skin care product releases, we now know to look for hydrating toners. That is, toners with ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides.

Step 4: Sunscreen - Product: A broad-spectrum SPF

Sunscreen is your last step of your routine as you step out into the world. The sunscreen at the end is the protective barrier of all the care you just put into your skin.

A fantastic light-weight facial sunscreen is none other than Rosé S'il Vous Plait SPF30 Gentle Mineral Sunscreen - perfect for our sensitive skin types. It’s a non-nano zinc oxide and titanium dioxide based physical sunscreen with SPF30 broad spectrum protection. It’s almost invisible on any skin tone. To apply, you need around 3 to 4 coin-sized amounts for your face, forehead and neck. You can re-apply it every 2 hours or right after sweating it out at the gym or going swimming.

Resting Beach Face SPF30 Sunscreen Serum is another good option for the face as it provides broad-spectrum protection from UVA and UVB rays. It even contains hyaluronic acid to plump skin with hydration. To use, apply up to 3 pumps, one for each side of your face and one for your forehead and neck, on its own as a 2-in-1 sunscreen-moisturizer, or the final step in your skincare routine. You can also re-apply every 2 hours or immediately after sweating or doing activities like swimming.

Whether you have acne-prone skin, dry skin or even normal skin, a consistent skin care routine is going to help you get that glow and give you healthy, radiant skin every day.
